Support Becker Boards Agreement Revisions

The Oakland Chinatown Chamber is part of the coalition of community organizations that supported the Becker Boards community billboard program.

Dear Honorable Oakland City Councilmembers, On behalf of the Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce, we write in support of the proposed amendments to the Becker Boards Agreement. The Oakland Chinatown Chamber is part of the coalition of community organizations that supported the Becker Boards community billboard program. From the beginning, we recognized the value of creating a model that would remove outdated billboard inventory while providing meaningful community benefits through access to public advertising and community messaging. For many small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and cultural groups, billboard advertising is simply out of reach. The cost of traditional outdoor advertising can be prohibitive, particularly for small and immigrant-owned businesses operating on limited marketing budgets. Becker Boards has helped bridge that gap by creating opportunities for organizations and businesses that otherwise would not have access to this level of visibility. Over the years, these billboards have served as an important platform to promote local businesses, cultural events, community celebrations, public awareness campaigns, and neighborhood initiatives. They have helped elevate small businesses, organizations, and communities that are often overlooked by traditional advertising channels while connecting Oakland residents and visitors with the people, places, and events that make our city unique. As a chamber representing hundreds of small businesses, we understand how difficult it can be for local entrepreneurs to compete for attention in todaythe playing field, attract customers, and support Oakland
